Hi Dirty

What does it have printed on the top.  I know they have a website http://www.billmansfoundry.com.au/index.htm but no mention of camp ovens.

Thats a very nice looking and well proportioned camp oven. Obviously new, can you tell us where you obtained it?
Even the locally made Furphy's that I have seen were pretty rough casting wise with loose fitting lids. (compared to my old Metters)
mikel

emailed Billmans re above.
9"  $109
12" $158
15" $182
18" $242
Seems a pretty reasonable price if quality good as looks

I agree with you mikel, it looks like a nicely made oven but is that a patch or something under the lid handle that has been ground back with an angle grinder ?
Like you I have several Metters ovens that are very old but well made, the lids are a neat fit, walls a uniform thickness and they are a pleasure to use and I certainly did'nt pay anything like the $290 for a second hand Furphy someone spent on ebay last night.
The prices of the Billman ovens are not a lot different from those quoted to me recently by Furphy for their made in and imported from China ones, I know which I'd rather buy.
BTW I've decided to lock my ovens away at night as they are far too valuable to leave wandering around outside LOL.    Rob.

Thanks for the pics dirty, I did'nt think there was a foundry still making camp ovens in this country.
I sent them an email but as yet have'nt got a reply, I will chase 'em up as I like the look of those pots and would like one in my collection. Now a 9" or a 12", lets see.......                        Rob.

Hi guys,

Did anyone have any luck following up these ovens? Are they still made? If so, can they be bought direct from the foundry?

As already stated, they look like a very good product.

Take a look here.  http://www.aussiecampovenforum.com/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?num=1159042783/0#0

Poddy Dodger got one.   He's on the road right now, heading for Millerman, but if I recall correctly (IIRC) he got it sometime in August.  It was September when I twisted his arm to get those pics of the lid lifter he made.

Hi Guys
Rang Billmans and they quoted me $187.00Au FOR A 15" plus $40.00 post to Brisbane this is going to be a little mors expensive because they are getting wooden packing cases made up to protect the ovens in transit but there is a 4-5 week wait for a 15" as none in stock right now and I was told that 12" are preportionatly cheaper and they have them in stock
Cheers Furphy

Guys

Hope to be talking to a foundry in the next couple of weeks to see about getting some cast iron camp ovens made.  If those are the prices Billmans are quoting then I reckon I can do better because I am not looking at making big dollars for myself.

Will keep you posted.

Derek

Thanks guys.

Derek, I'm certainly very interested in hearing how you go and if price and postage is right I'll seriously consider buying a 12" or 15" from you.

I live about 45 minutes from Castlemaine, and hence Billmans, and travel up that way a couple of times a year. Therefore I have to factor in postage from anywhere else.

Cheers,

David.
